The final round of the April tournament was held Wednesday the 24th.  Both games came down to close rook pawn end games.  In the game between David and Thomas both sides queened and Thomas's last pawn allowed him to eventually prevail.  In the game between Roger and Vince a check leading to a rook exchange allowed Roger to prevent Vince from promoting and eventually win.  Final tournament standing were Roger 3-0, Thomas 2-1, Vince 1-3 and David 0-3.

The founder of the Georgetown Chess Club, Herb Baumann,  has decided to step down from his position as club leader.  The club is continuing to meet and will be discussing its future path without Herb's continual guidance.  He has promised to come and play on some occasions but looks forwards to having Wednesday evenings free from this obligation.  Please come and join us for Chess at the Georgetown library at 5:30 on Wednesdays.

Happy New Year!

Our January Swiss will start this Wednesday, January 8th at 6:00 pm. Registration will be from 5:30 to 5:50 pm. If you plan to play but think you will be arriving late or would like to request a bye for round one please email me to confirm entry or you may not be paired in round one/two.

The tournament will be a four round swiss-system event with one round per night on the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Time control will be G/55 inc 10 (that translates to each side having 55 minutes to play the game and an increment of 10 seconds will be added to each player's clock after every move).

Entry fee is $2 for the entire tournament (4 weeks). Collection of the entry fee will be strictly enforced (New Year's Resolution--No pay/no play). Since this is a rated event all players must be current USCF members through January 31, 2014. Memberships can be purchased at time of entry.

Looking for to seeing everybody this Wednesday!
